1.What is a corrugated guardrail?
Wave guardrail is a road safety product widely used on highways. It is a semi-rigid continuous structure, mainly formed by corrugated steel guardrail panels spliced to each other and supported by main columns. Its function is to prevent vehicles from running off the road and ensure driver safety.
When a vehicle collides, the corrugated guardrail can absorb the collision energy through the deformation of its columns and beams, and force the vehicle to change direction and return to the normal driving path, thereby protecting the passengers in the vehicle and reducing losses caused by the accident.
The corrugated guardrail is a combined corrugated plate movable steel guardrail used at the opening of the central separation zone of the highway. The guardrail consists of two corrugated steel guardrail panels and two columns fixedly clamped between them. The two columns are fixedly clamped between the two corrugated steel guardrail panels. During normal operation of the highway, the guardrail can be easily inserted into the pre-set plug-in hole at the opening using plug-in and pull-out columns to play the role of isolation and protection. At the same time, it echoes the guardrail belt on the outside of the highway, making it uniform and beautiful.
2.Strength of corrugated beam guardrail
The strength of the corrugated beam guardrail is mainly determined by the stiffness of the column, the bearing capacity of the soil and the tensile strength of the beam. In particular, the relationship between the horizontal bearing capacity and displacement of the column is an important factor in determining the strength of the column. When the columns are buried in the soil foundation, factors such as the road shoulder fill may not be dense enough and the columns are too close to the slope line to reduce the lateral soil pressure. The burial depth of columns should not be less than 110cm, and the burial depth of columns with curbs should not be less than 125cm. When the columns are embedded in the concrete foundation, their burial depth should not be less than 40cm. Since the maximum bending moment of a column occurs at the root, what needs to be considered is how to make it easier to repair the column after it is damaged. For the convenience of maintenance and repair, the flange assembly type connection method can be used. The size of the concrete foundation and the connection strength of the flange should be determined by calculation according to different situations. When conditions permit, it is best to use removable guardrail column devices. Its characteristic is that hard plastic tubes are used to reserve holes for the columns. The burial depth can be changed within the range of 40 to 80cm according to needs. The main consideration is to leave room for future elevation. The holder is fixed in the concrete foundation. During installation, loosen the tightener screw and insert the column. After adjusting the height, tighten the three bolts and the column will be locked. The device has a simple structure and is easy to install and maintain.
3.Installation height of corrugated beam guardrail
Once an out-of-control vehicle collides with the guardrail, it is of course hoped that the guardrail can act on the effective part of the vehicle, neither causing the vehicle to cross the guardrail nor getting under the guardrail beam. The ideal situation should be to use the overall function of the guardrail to force the vehicle to gradually turn and return to the normal driving direction. However, there are all kinds of cars produced in the world, from large-tonnage heavy-duty cars to very small mini-cars. Their quality varies greatly, and the appearance of the vehicles varies greatly. Modern cars are developing toward miniaturization, and their weight is becoming lighter and lighter. In order to reduce air resistance, the front hood is lowered to be more streamlined. When this kind of vehicle collides with the guardrail, it is easy to get under the beam of the corrugated beam guardrail and cause serious consequences.
Another situation is that the tonnage of vehicles is getting larger and larger, and vehicles are developing in the direction of large-scale and heavy-duty. When a large vehicle collides with a guardrail, it may cause jumping problems. Especially when colliding with the "W-shaped" corrugated beam guardrail, the bumper of the vehicle may twist into an inclined plane due to the collision with the top of the beam of the corrugated beam guardrail. This situation is more dangerous when the collision angle is large and the speed is high. Once this happens, it is possible for the bumper to tilt downward and backward, and driven by the momentum of the car, it will easily slide up the slope of the guardrail, leading to an accident over the guardrail.
The two situations mentioned above - vehicles getting under the guardrail and vehicles crossing the guardrail beams are certainly undesirable. This requires a good study to determine the reasonable installation height of the guardrail. The installation height of the guardrail can be determined through three aspects: full-scale collision test between the vehicle and the guardrail; traffic accident investigation data of the guardrail in use; and analysis of the geometric characteristics of modern vehicles. Generally speaking, the center height of the beam of the corrugated beam guardrail should be 60cm from the road surface to the center of the connecting bolt hole. When there is a curb, the center height of the beam shall be 60cm from the top of the curb to the center of the connecting bolt hole. When the corrugated beam guardrail has anti-blocking blocks, its center height remains unchanged.
