The wave guardrails is a traffic facility widely used on highways. It is mainly used to prevent out-of-control vehicles from running off the road and ensure driving safety. The corrugated guardrail is a combined corrugated plate movable steel guardrail used at the opening of the central separation zone of the highway. The guardrail consists of two corrugated steel guardrail panels and two columns fixedly clamped between them. The two columns are fixedly clamped between the two corrugated steel guardrail panels. Roadside corrugated beam guardrail

1. Cross-sectional layout

The cross-sectional layout of the roadside corrugated beam guardrail should not cause the guardrail surface to intrude within the limits of the highway building, and should not significantly reduce the lateral earth pressure on the outside of the guardrail column. The minimum distance from the outer edge of the column to the edge of the road shoulder is: when the dirt shoulder width is 75cm, it should not be less than 25cm; when the dirt shoulder width is 50cm, it should not be less than 14cm.

2. End processing

 

The starting and ending points of the roadside corrugated beam guardrail should be treated with end ends. The ends of roadside guardrails can be round-headed or ground-anchored. In the early days of highway construction in my country, the ends of guardrails were mostly round-headed, and the starting point of the guardrail and the standard section guardrail were connected through a gradual section. The gradient section is generally designed in a parabola shape. The position of the column gradually moves outward, and the height of the column remains unchanged. It uses a concrete foundation and adds cable end anchors. This treatment method is called end diagonal expansion, and the end beam has a round head. This kind of end is commonly used abroad because it is easy to manufacture and install, and it has a better guiding function when the collision angle is small. If an out-of-control vehicle collides head-on with the end, an accident may occur with the guardrail penetrating the carriage. Therefore, ground-anchored ends were used instead, which gradually extend towards the ground through angled beams and are anchored at the ends with concrete foundations. When a ground-anchored end collides head-on with an out-of-control vehicle, the vehicle will climb along the inclined corrugated beam and absorb energy. In the event of a side collision, it also has a good guiding function.

There are different treatment methods for guardrail ends upstream in the direction of oncoming traffic and downstream in the direction of oncoming traffic. The end treatment methods described above all refer to the upstream direction of oncoming traffic. The downstream end in the forward direction is arranged in line with the standard section guardrail. The downstream ends are generally treated as round end beams. When the vehicle reaches the downstream end, the guardrail installation has been completed. It should be said that the danger on the roadside is no longer great.

3. Anti-blocking block structure

The anti-blocking block of the roadside corrugated beam guardrail is the load-bearing component between the corrugated beam and the column, and can be made of various shapes of steel. It can be divided into type A and type B. Type A is suitable for round columns and is a hexagonal structure; type B is suitable for grooved columns or other shaped steel columns.

There are many benefits to adding anti-blocking blocks between corrugated beams and columns:

(1) The anti-blocking block itself is an energy-absorbing mechanism, so it can gradually deform the guardrail after a collision, which is beneficial to energy absorption and reduces occupant casualties;

(2) The anti-blocking block is fixed between the column and the corrugated beam so that the corrugated beam is suspended from the column. Once an out-of-control vehicle collides with a guardrail, the front wheel will not be blocked on the column because the corrugated beam is close to the column;

(3) After the anti-blocking block participates in the overall function of the guardrail, the collision force can be distributed to more span structures, thereby making the force on the guardrail more uniform and making the collision trajectory of the guardrail smoother, which is beneficial to the guidance of vehicles and increases the overall strength of the guardrail;

(4) When anti-blocking blocks are installed on road sections with curb stones, the distance between the corrugated beam and the curb surface can be reduced, reducing or even eliminating the adverse effects on the guardrail caused by out-of-control vehicles jumping after hitting the curb.

4. Column installation

 

Roadside guardrail columns should be installed in solid soil shoulders. The interaction between the columns and the roadbed soil causes the

columns to bend and deform, and the soil base to compress and deform. This is part of the energy absorption process of the guardrail. However, when the guardrail columns encounter the columns, they are placed in places such as bridges, passages, culverts, etc. that cannot be driven in. When there are underground pipelines, stone road sections, and other special circumstances below the columns, the guardrail columns should be set in the concrete foundation. If conditions permit, replaceable guardrail columns should be used.

There are three ways to install guardrail columns in concrete: one is to reserve holes in the concrete foundation, fill them with dense sand after the columns are placed, and seal the top and bottom with asphalt. In the event of a collision, the column can deform to a certain extent without damaging the concrete foundation and is easy to replace. The other type uses a flange plate foundation, connected by bolts, and an oblong hole is opened on the flange plate. Once a collision occurs, the flange plate will have a certain displacement along the direction of the oblong hole. If the anchor bolts are not damaged, it can be easily repaired. The third is to use a removable road safety guardrail device. This device is suitable for circular columns and is made of cast steel. The outer base is embedded in concrete, and the inner casing is integrated with the outer foundation through bolts. The guardrail column is inserted into the inner sleeve, and if the bolts are tightened thickly, the inner sleeve will lock the column. Once a collision occurs and the column bends and deforms, the column can be easily pulled out and replaced by tightening the bolts.
